Flu Season is Approaching

What You Need to Know About the Flu Vaccine

Is the flu vaccine safe? Flu vaccines have a good safety record. Hundreds of millions of Americans have safely received flu vaccines over the past 50 years. More information about the safety of flu vaccines is available at www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/vaccine/vaccinesafety.htm

How do flu vaccines work? Flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the body about two weeks after vaccination. These antibodies provide protection against infection with the viruses that are in the vaccine.

When is flu season? Seasonal flu activity often begins as early as October and November and can continue to occur as late as May. Flu activity most commonly peaks in the United States between December and February.
